Description
Absolutely gorgeous hand carved Ivory (pre-ban) chess pieces, the 'black' pieces bases' are carved ebony wood. The highlights on the black pieces are carved into the wood and were then painted. Exact carving date could not be determined, only that they were carved either in the 1950s or earlier. In the early 1970s a merchant marine brought them from the Middle East to the Golden Triangle, when he passed they were left to his son which is from whom I aquired them. The carvings are very skillfully done and the detail is just fantastic. A very unique and rare set.
