Large Handpainted Japanese Ceramic Sleeping Cat Figurine

Description

This special cat was an estate find. He was obviously well cared for by his owner as he is free of chips or cracks and has rubber taps applied to his base for safety on furniture.
He was manufactured and hand painted in Japan and sold through the large Takahashi Market in San Francisco.  The cat is an impressive 9" in length and is approximately 4-1/2" at widest point and 4" wide at highest point.  He has an ivory ceramic base color, covered with a universal fine crazing which is not a defect.  He is covered with hand painted chrysanthemums in varying sizes and designs.  He has a beautiful golden tail and a jaunty russet colored bow which is enhanced with gold and dark blue.  For good luck, he is wearing a gold bell on each side of his collar.  His sweet face features closed eyes, a gold tipped nose and whiskers.
